Lab: Make Hollin Answers ready for production

75 min read·13 Oct 2026
Module 12 · Lab · About 90 minutes · Needs: lessons 1 to 5 of this module, and the Module 6, 8 and 9 labs (or the cells in Step 1)

What you are building

ONE REQUEST THROUGH SERVICE (HOLLIN/FALLBACK.PY) cache check at hop Modules 6, 8 search, rerank authorise live ACL cascade cheap, strong 1 model answer Module 9 checks 2 partial answer cited passages 3 hand over with reference trace.py: spans, cost | governance.py: audit entry
The lab's service: Hollin's own steps (blue) and earlier modules (grey) feed the model cascade (amber); a passing answer (green) is rung one, then a cited partial answer, then a person, and every request leaves a trace and an audit entry.

The pilot starts on Monday 2 November. Each lesson of this module built its piece in its own notebook, on a stand-in search. This lab moves those pieces into the files the course guide names, on top of the real pipeline: Module 6's search, Module 8's reranker and context assembler, and Module 9's answer contract, imported, not copied. hollin/trace.py records, times and prices every request; hollin/cache.py holds the caches; hollin/governance.py decides who may see what and keeps the audit chain; hollin/fallback.py joins them into one service with a fallback ladder. The model is called in Step 6 only.
